Thom McHugh
Following his heart, after two years at Western Kentucky University, Thom transferred to the music business program at Nashville's Belmont University. While at Belmont, Thom began studying engineering and working in the University's studio. It wasn't long before Thom landed an internship at MCA Music Publishing where he soon worked his way up to chief engineer of the MCA studio. Engineering by day and writing by night, Thom wrote and had songs recorded by Crystal Gayle, Barbra Mandrell, Rob Crosby, and Russell Smith and scored his first hit with Neil McCoy's title cut and single "Where Forever Begins". It was at this point Thom decided to try writing full time at MCA, where he became a staff writer. Not long after becoming a full time writer and being no stranger to the studio, Thom decided to try combining his talents into production. In 1992, Thom co-wrote and co-produced Palomino Road's debut album. In 1993 Thom penned his first number one hit record, "Holdin' Heaven" for Tracy Byrd. Since becoming a full time writer, Thom has had well over a hundred songs recorded and penned 19 singles including "Don't Happen Twice" for Kenny Chesney, "You Can't Lose Me" by Faith Hill, "More" by Trace Adkins, "Life Goes On" by Little Texas, "This Is Me" by Randy Travis and "It Won't Be Over You" by Steve Wariner. Of Thom's 19 singles, four have reached the number one position on the country charts and five have made it to the top five. Thom McHugh signed as a staff writer with Blacktop Music Group, Inc. in the summer of 2005 and has recently had songs recorded by Van Zant and Randy Travis.
